Someone needs to coin a term that goes beyond ingredient household, because my parents’ house is just that. They’ve gone beyond being an “ingredient household” because they don’t even have any ingredients to start with!

Because of this, visting my parents is always a bit of a food adventure, in a sense. It’s not that they don’t have vegan food. In fact, they’re mostly plant based. The issue is: they don’t have food at all!

And it’s not just the lack of food that throws me off. I work EST hours, so that means that when I visit my parents, my remote work day starts at 6 am PST.

So here it is, in all its unfiltered glory. This is what I ate in a day as a vegan of 12 years when I was visiting my parents on a remote work day.

Reflecting back on this day as I type: I ate some pretty fun (and bougie) food which was unexpected. But hey, the point of this post is to track what I eat to show you what my version of veganism looks like.

Breakfast: 6 am - 10 am

Yes, it was a long breakfast.

I started off with a cup of warm water. I always try to drink water in the morning because I heard online that it’s good for you. And I almost always drink warm water unless it’s an incredibly hot day and I’ve been exercising.

After my warm water, I had 1/2 a cup of strong coffee and almond milk, and a peach from Grand Forks, BC, then got to work. Nothing beats summer BC produce!
